UFC, Dana White ending 2011 with enticing bouts

Well, well, well, the last three months of 2011 are upon us, and the MMA gods (read: Dana White) have blessed us with a slate of compelling fights to end the calendar year.

It all starts with Saturday’s UFC Live on Versus 6: Cruz vs. Johnson. It just gets bigger and better for the UFC the rest of the year. Next week’s UFC 136 is stacked and the rest of the year looks no different.

At first glance there are several fights, at least, that are like to seismically shift the sport.

Too dramatic? How about a “slight jolt”? Better? Good. Moving on...

The next three months include title fights, grudge matches, battle of behemoths and matches that pit strength vs. strength.

The five fights I'm most looking forward to:

Nick Diaz vs. B.J. Penn: Both fighters are strong jiu-jitsu fighters that are likely to try and submit opponents, but neither are afraid to stand and strike. This fight takes place at UFC 137 on October 29. The winner of this bout would seem likely to gain a future title fight.

Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos: This battle of big boys is for the UFC Heavyweight Title, which Cain currently holds. If that wasn’t enough of a reason to watch the fight, it is also the main event of the first UFC on FOX card on November 12.

Alistair Overeem vs. Brock Lesnar: A fight that very few had imagined they’d see just six months ago. Overeem is making his UFC debut and Lesnar is making his return after major surgery. Rumor is that if Overeem wins, he will be granted a title shot. This one goes down December 30 at UFC 140.

Cung Le vs. Wanderlei Silva: Taking place at UFC 139 in San Jose, it's Brazilian legend versus NorCal legend. Le makes his UFC debut in his hometown against the Brazilian, Silva, who is looking to bounce back after a KO loss to Chris Leben.

Mark Munoz vs. Chris Leben: This fight holds significant meaning for one particular reason; it will be the first ever non-title main event fight to be a scheduled five-round bout. It is also Vallejo native Munoz’s first main event fight in the UFC.

Those are my Top 5 fights to end 2011, what are yours?
