With the professional MMA scene filled with fighters representing their Northern California training camps, it is only right that a region filled with such talent becomes the birthplace of amateurs looking to make it big.

One promotion is looking to be the pool of untapped talent. That promotion? Bay Brawlers, which made their promotional debut this past Saturday at the Oakland Marriott Convention Center.

The card was filled with fighters from all over the Bay Area and the headlining title bouts featured Rodeo’s Jared and Jordan Porter, who were both featured here on Inside the Cage.

Jared, who was slated to fight for the bantamweight title, had his opponent drop out and was thus slated to face-off against Cameron Daniels for the Bay Brawlers Featherweight title. For Porter, the change in weight and opponent made no difference.

He handled Daniels thru all three rounds and took the unanimous decision victory. Jared’s title victory in the next-to-last match set up a possible Porter title sweep with his twin brother Jordan up in the final title bout.

In what became the most contested fight of the night, Jordan Porter took on Joshua Berkovic for the Bay Brawlers Lightweight title. This three round bout was a back and forth match. Porter scored a knockdown with a vicious right hand in the first round that could’ve ended the fight, but Berkovic responded with several takedowns.

The second-round was very close with each fighter scoring takedowns. Porter landed some solid punches and Berkovic was able to control the action when it went to the ground. After a solid third-round performance by Berkovic, the crowd saw him as the winner. But when a fight is left in the hands of the judges, anything is possible. Jordan Porter was announced the winner by unanimous decision and the crowd was clearly split on the outcome.

As both Porters celebrated with their team, family and friends, the crowd stood in a state of shock. The excitement and joy coming from the Porters quickly overtook the audience in attendance and many there began to cheer the effort of all fighters.

This nine-fight promotional debut for Bay Brawlers was a success and showed that there is a vibrant MMA fan-base in the Bay Area and Northern California. The Porter twins showed that there is a crop of young, untapped talent here that, when given an opportunity, can put on quite a show. Whether it be at the amateur level or as a professional.

Where this promotion and the fighters on this card go, only time will tell. If Saturday night was any indication, then the skies the limit.
