With the Strikeforce World Grand Prix being just moments away and the main-card full of intriguing match-ups there are five things that all fight fans
should pay attention to. And, they are:
1) Mike Kyle makes his return to
Strikeforce, but which Mike Kyle will fans see? Kyle is adamant that he is
coming into this fight against Marcos Rogerio de Lima a new man, a better man
than his last fights. For those who don’t remember, Kyle was suspended for
kneeing an opponent in the face while his opponent was down. This fight is a
prelim, so unless you have HDNet only plan on reading about it.
2) The Strikeforce debut of
highly touted Venezuelan fighter Maximo "The Max Murderer" Blanco.
Blanco, who was supposed to debut against Josh Thomson, is taking on MMA
veteran Pat Healy. Blanco has done well in Japan , but how will he fare in his
North American debut is the bigger question? Tough to say as little is known
about him, but his performance against Healy will do a lot in shaping his MMA
future.
3) Will the four AKA fighters
dominate the night? There are an unprecedented four fighters from the AKA camp
on this card, three on the main and one on the prelims, they have vowed that
there will be a clean sweep but will it hold true by the end of the night? If
so, the AKA camp has proved to be unstoppable.
4) Luke Rockhold makes a
comeback and is fighting for a title already. Is it too soon for the Santa Cruz native to
fight for a title or will he shock the MMA world and defeat Jacare for the
Strikeforce Middleweight title? This is one of the more interesting fights as
you have a title-holder defending against someone who has had little time in
the cage this past year due to injuries.
5) Can Daniel Cormier take down
Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, both literally and figuratively? Cormier is five
inches shorter and almost 20 pounds lighter than Silva, but hard to tell if the
size difference be an advantage or disadvantage for Silva. This match is the
more interesting semi-final GP bout as the other matches two identically sized
men.
