Dream fights that just might be

Is the dream of a Silva vs. GSP fight nothing more than a dream?

With this week being a “Fight Week” that culminates with the much-anticipated UFC light-heavyweight bout between champion Jon “Bones” Jones and former champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, it got me thinking of fights that would intrigue any MMA fan.

Since naming the 20 or so fights would be too long of a read and many of us, including myself, have short attention spans I figured I’d name just five.

Alistair Overeem vs. Cain Velasquez: Overeem is facing Brock Lesnar in December and Cain is battling Junior dos Santos in November. If both men win it can, and should, set up this mega-fight.

Dan Henderson vs. Jon Jones: This is one is even more likely to happen now that Hendo is back in the UFC. He is slated to fight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 139, but a win there coupled with Jones defeating Rampage could possibly set-up this fight.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brock Lesnar: This fight would be intriguing for one, simple reason: Which of these well-marketed fighters has deserved all the hype? I’ve enjoyed the fights each man has had, but both have suffered recent defeats that made them look more human.

Anderson Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre: Two of the top pound-for-pound fighters going at it! What more could you ask for? The more dominant these two become, the more hopeful fans become of seeing them face off in a catch-weight bout.

Miesha Tate vs. Gina Carano: Nobody knows what the future of Women’s MMA under the Zuffa umbrella is, but if the clock is running out on the sport then why not have a current women’s champ face-off against the female that shined a bright-light on WMMA?

These are just five of the fights that I wouldn’t mind seeing sometime in the future. I’m sure you as a reader, and a MMA fan, have fights you’d want to see as well. Thankfully, MMA is a sport where fans’ voices are heard and if they’re loud enough who knows what can happen.
